Your page history changes the platform fee
Check Plan details in creator settings before estimating fees. The applicable plan is a property of your account, not a universal rate that every Patreon creator pays.
Patreon’s standard platform fee is 10% for creator pages published after August 4, 2025. Applicable taxes and payment processing are separate; legacy accounts may have different rates. Patreon: Creator fees overview
Legacy eligibility depends on continuous publication; unpublishing and republishing can move an account to the standard plan. Confirm the actual plan in creator settings; historical signup alone is insufficient. Patreon: Creator fees overview
Legacy membership plan branches
Use this as a membership-plan lookup, not as a fee schedule for every digital-product sale. Confirm the plan and its publication history in your own account.
| Plan | Applicable platform share |
|---|---|
| Founders | Legacy Founders membership platform fee: 5%. Legacy eligibility requires a creator page published on or before August 4, 2025 and kept continuously published. The Founders plan must have remained unchanged since May 7, 2019; confirm Plan details. Existing qualifying plan; plan history and continuous publication matter. A payout-currency change can alter processing without changing this platform share. Patreon: Creator fees overview |
| Pro | Legacy Pro membership platform fee: 8%. Legacy eligibility requires a creator page published on or before August 4, 2025 and kept continuously published. Existing qualifying continuously published creator page; unavailable to new creators. Patreon: Creator fees overview |
| Pro + Merch | Legacy Pro + Merch membership platform fee: 11%. Legacy eligibility requires a creator page published on or before August 4, 2025 and kept continuously published. Existing qualifying continuously published creator page; unavailable to new creators. Patreon: Creator fees overview |
Choose the correct estimate
Use this sequence before entering a rate into a generic calculator. If the plan name or publication history is unclear, confirm it in your account rather than relying on the date you first signed up.
- Open creator settings and record the current plan under monetization.
- Check whether the page has remained continuously published; signup date alone is insufficient.
- Use that plan’s platform rate, then identify the applicable payment-processing conditions.
- Record payout currency, customer payment methods and any conversion or payout costs.
- Compare the result with the actual fee lines in the same period’s records.
Separate Apple in-app checkout from web payments
An iOS device is not enough to identify the payment route. Check whether the purchase used Apple’s in-app system or a web checkout. Apple Pay on a web payment is also distinct from the App Store route.
Keep separate scenarios for payment routes with different fee structures. The generic subscription calculator is not a precise model of Apple’s in-app fee base and ordering. Consult Patreon’s current processing tables for your plan, payout currency, payment method and member location.
Eligible Apple in-app purchases incur an App Store fee of 30%. Patreon platform fees still apply; additional Patreon payment processing does not. Some US buyers may have mobile-web checkout without the App Store fee. Patreon: Creator fees overview
A headline rate misses other layers
A small payment can be affected differently by a fixed charge than a larger payment. Estimate the payment mix as well as the total revenue. The plan’s processing schedule and your customers’ payment conditions matter.
A complete Patreon estimate must consider payment processing, conversion, payout charges and taxes. Processing varies with payment method, payout currency and sometimes legacy tier amount. Patreon: Creator fees overview
| Cost layer | Information to collect | Comparison mistake to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Platform fee | Your current plan and eligible sales for the period. | Applying the standard rate to every legacy account. |
| Payment processing | Payment methods, currencies and transaction amounts. | Treating all receipts as one large transaction. |
| Currency conversion | Member payment currency versus payout currency. | Assuming a single currency symbol removes conversion costs. |
| Payout charges | Selected method and withdrawal records. | Omitting costs incurred after the platform balance is calculated. |
| Taxes and other expenses | Applicable tax treatment and operating records. | Calling the remaining balance after platform fees profit. |
Use a like-for-like comparison worksheet
For each platform, record the same period’s gross receipts, transaction count, refunds, platform charges, processing, conversion, payout costs and operating expenses. Mark each field as documented, assumed or unknown.
Keep the offer comparable too. A subscription business and a series of one-off purchases may have different payment frequency, workload and costs even if gross receipts match. First decide which service and payment pattern you are comparing; then compare the arithmetic.
When to use the break-even calculator
Use a rate from your own plan as an assumption, add the processing percentage and fixed per-payment charge separately, and choose one billing period. The required subscription count is meaningful only for that set of inputs.
If several payment schedules apply, calculate representative scenarios separately. A single average rate can hide the effect of small payments or a changing customer mix. Check current content rules and availability independently of the fee estimate.
